Introduction
BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group (“TIG”) recognizes that development of well-planned and well-executed renewable energy projects can bring multiple benefits to our neighbors, clients and other stakeholders. These benefits include new clean energy sources along with jobs and economic development. Through application of these Principles, TIG seeks to generate benefits for our neighbors, our clients, and the landscapes in which we invest.
Renewable Energy Principles
- Seek Positive Impacts: TIG carefully considers the location of renewable energy projects on land that it manages. TIG seeks to ensure that these projects do not impact sensitive sites, cause erosion, reduce habitat connectivity or diminish landscape aesthetics.
- Consider Communities: TIG considers community input and impacts in developing renewable energy projects. TIG prefers to work with developers that have a strong track record of successful community engagement and requires developers to establish best-practice procedures to engage positively with and seek to benefit neighbors and communities over the entire project development lifecycle.
- Consider Water: TIG seeks to minimize any impact of renewable energy projects on water quantity and quality and requires its development partners to appropriately control runoff, manage stormwater, and minimize erosion or soil loss.
- Consider Habitat: TIG favors project designs that carefully consider ecosystem health. We expect our partners to take actions appropriate to the site and the project to support ecosystem health. These actions may include avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating habitat loss and fragmentation from the design, installation, and maintenance of infrastructure; implementing erosion control and remediation techniques as appropriate; excluding invasive species; choosing pollinator-friendly native vegetative groundcover; and taking other measures appropriate for local species and habitats.
- Consider Long-term Use: TIG prioritizes sites for renewable energy development that are aligned with long-term sustainable landscape management goals. Renewable energy projects on TIG-managed land are designed to allow for a variety of future site uses after the end of the project lifespan.
